Forest Schools in Holy Trinity Primary School
This term Mr Byrne and Mrs Conlan have been leading forest school and outdoor classroom sessions with some of our year groups. Here is a snapshot of what they have been doing.
In Primary 4, we have been reading "The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark." Taking inspiration from this novel the children collected vibrant leaves from our school garden. Using a tick sheet and clipboard they identified different leaves. They discovered names and colours of leaves. The children then used PVA glue to create their very own owls, adding big, expressive eyes to their creations. These hands-on outdoor lessons have been a hit, sparking curiosity among the children.
In Key Stage 2, we have embarked on an exciting journey of exploration and learning in our outdoor nursery garden. This hands-on experience has allowed us to connect with nature, through various activities, such as scavenger hunts, Andy Goldsworthy inspired art, calculating ages of trees, nature onomatopoeia and symmetry using natural resources. This outdoor classroom has truly enriched the children’s educational experience, making learning both fun and meaningful.
