Yesterday, our Language Buddies and EAL pupils led a vibrant and meaningful assembly to mark World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. Through their words, drama and performance, they reminded us that while we all come from different backgrounds, languages and traditions, it is these differences that make our school community so special. A powerful retelling of ‘A Bundle of Sticks’ highlighted the importance of listening, respect and working together — showing that we are always stronger when we unite. Our pupils proudly shared their own cultures, from languages and celebrations to foods and traditions, celebrating the rich diversity within our school. The assembly ended on a high with an energetic dance and drum routine, showcasing unity, pride and a shared message — we are many, but we stand as one. At Holy Trinity Primary School, we are proud to be a welcoming, inclusive school where everyone belongs, every voice is valued and every culture is celebrated.
We have had an incredibly busy and exciting term in Primary 4 exploring our thematic topic ‘Up, Up and Away’—and what a journey it has been! In World Around Us, we have been developing our knowledge of the history of flight, learning about inspiring pioneers such as the Wright Brothers and Amelia Earhart. Our curiosity truly took flight through hands-on STEM activities, where we made our own dynamic planes, gliders and helicopters and tested them - developing our creativity, problem-solving skills and teamwork along the way. In Literacy, we have been enthusiastic writers, creating persuasive texts encouraging others to visit countries around the world, using language and images to encourage and persuade others. Our imaginations also soared as we wrote creative descriptions and poems about dragons, showcasing our flair for storytelling and rich vocabulary. We have also worked hard in Numeracy to strengthen our understanding of multiplication and division, exploring how these connect to fractions. Alongside this, we developed practical maths skills through telling the time, interpreting pictograms and graphs, and measuring weight, length and angles, applying our learning in meaningful and engaging ways. Our artistic talents have shone through in our colourful and imaginative designs of dragons and detailed dragon eyes, bringing creativity and individuality to our work. In all of our learning, we have used our digital tools and apps to develop our ICT skills using colour and images to persuade and influence thinking around our dragons, to practise our literacy and numeracy skills and to present and publish our poems or pieces of writing. One particular highlight for us this term has been making our First Holy Communion. We thoughtfully prepared prayers, songs, readings and artwork, contributing to a truly meaningful and memorable celebration of another special sacrament on our faith journey. Through our work and play this term both inside and outside the classroom, we have truly shown how learning can take us up, up and away!
We were delighted to be invited to attend the Mid Ulster Arts, Culture and Community Awards at the Burnavon Theatre last night, having been shortlisted as one of four finalists in the 'Equality & Good Relations Award' category. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the incredible work taking place across our community. While we didn’t take home the award, we are immensely proud to have been recognised for our work as a 'School of Sanctuary' and shortlisted among other such inspiring organisations.
We are delighted to share that Holy Trinity Primary School has been re-awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag (June 2026). This achievement reflects the strong commitment across our school community to promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. A special word of thanks must go to Miss McCann, who led this project with passion and enthusiasm, and to our dedicated pupil Eco Councillors, whose leadership, ideas and energy were central to this success. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our staff, caretaker and parents who supported the school in achieving its environmental targets. The assessors highlighted many strengths, including the active involvement of pupils across all year groups, a thorough and regularly updated environmental review, and a purposeful, pupil-driven action plan. They commended the range of impactful initiatives, including recycling projects, environmental awareness activities and the restoration of our eco-garden into a valuable outdoor learning space for all. They also recognised the clear impact of the programme across the curriculum, the effective use of data to monitor progress and the strong emphasis on pupil voice, with the Eco Council playing a key role in informing and involving the wider school community. The pupil-created Eco-Code, displayed prominently throughout the school, was also praised. We are incredibly proud to hold the Green Flag for the next two years and look forward to continuing our Eco journey as we work towards our next application in 2028. This award reflects our shared commitment to caring for our environment and empowering our pupils as responsible global citizens.
First Holy Communion- A memorable and very special day for everyone.
The next parent workshop in our series is ‘Supporting Literacy and Numeracy at Home’ It is for our Primary 4-7 parents and takes place on Thursday 21st May at 3.15pm in the red-floored hall. It outlines way in which learning in literacy and numeracy can be supported at home and help our pupils develop skills, routines and study habits that they can carry through KS1, KS2 into post-primary too. We look forward to seeing you there.
Today Miss McCann’s class took part in a special assembly thanking God for the Sun. ☀️😎 All of the children performed excellently and created beautiful pieces of artwork for their families to admire. 🎨🖌️ We are so proud of all the girls and boys. Well done to everyone! ⭐
Primary 6 have had a very busy and exciting term so far! 🌟 We recently finished our Energy topic, where we took part in some fantastic STEM learning. Working alongside the Drumlin Project, the children designed and made their own wind turbines 🌬️ as well as creating electrical circuits ⚡ as part of our investigations into energy. We’ve also started our new class novel, Charlotte’s Web 📚 and have been enjoying lots of active and outdoor learning in Numeracy now that the weather has improved ☀️ Our new topic, Going for Gold, has introduced us to the Ancient Greek Olympics 🏛️ and the children are already fully engaged and enthusiastic. Alongside all of this, we are now busy preparing for our school show 🎭 Several P6 pupils are part of the main cast, while everyone else is enthusiastically learning songs and dances. We can’t wait to share it with you al
Mrs Devlin’s nursery class travelled by bus to Parkanaur where they met their friends from Cookstown Nursery. The children from both schools followed the Gruffalo Trail and found him sleeping in the forest! Along the way the children collected leaves, flowers, pine cones and twigs for their nature hunt.
