Autism Specific and Learning Support Centres
Holy Trinity P.S is an inclusive school. We are fortunate to have two Autism Specific and two Learning Support Centres: Foundation Stage/Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. The specialised centres are located over five rooms with the additional room dedicated to Play/Activity Based Learning. There are four full time teachers and nine classroom assistants assigned to the Centres. The staff are highly skilled to cater for the various learning needs.
The classroom environments and learning plans are tailored to suit the individual pupils’ needs. Each classroom incorporates the use of visual schedules, nurturing safe spaces and designated work areas. Movement and brain breaks are implemented into lesson plans to ensure pupils with sensory processing disorders have the necessary sensory breaks to deescalate from the stimulation of the classroom.
Holy Trinity P.S. has a fully resourced sensory room equipped with stimulating resources to provide a sense of calm and comfort. It helps pupils to learn self-regulation skills and prepares them for learning and interacting with others.
As part of the sensory curriculum, Holy Trinity P.S. uses Sensory Circuits. Sensory circuit sessions are timetabled on a daily basis and pupils in both mainstream and the specialised centres have access to this provision. Sensory Circuits are important to develop neurological, sensory and visual processing as well as increasing pupils’ fine and gross motor skills.
All pupils are given many opportunities to enhance their social skills. Each pupil is linked to a mainstream ‘Home’ class. They attend various activities throughout the week. There are also opportunities for pupils from mainstream classes to attend the LSC/ASC through reverse integration.
