This week in Primary 6
19th Apr 2024
Social media week.
The Primary 6 children have made a great start to the new term. They displayed great enthusiasm for our WAU topic- Electricity. As part of our topic work we studied the contents of an electrical bill and answered word problems based on the information provided. Also in Numeracy, we explored the topic of symmetry. We investigated examples of horizontal and vertical symmetry outdoors. We utilised mirrors to identify symmetry in the letters of the alphabet and when using peg boards.
In Literacy, as part of our new writing genre, we dramatised story extracts and playscripts. In our novel study of Kensuke‘s Kingdom, we sequenced events from the story and we designed shells for Kensuke in art.
In Science we explored electrical circuits and investigated which classroom items were conductors or insulators. Linking the topic to ICT, we used BBC class clips and other websites to collect information on the topic. We used the information acquired to complete a fact file and explanation on how electricity is created and transported to our homes. We identified the dangers that come with the use of electricity and therefore created posters on how to stay safe when using electricity.
In PE we learnt the rules and objectives of playing rounders. It is a fun, inclusive sport which encourages great teamwork.
During these past two weeks, we enjoyed visiting the annual book fair. We also commenced our weekend Literacy and Numeracy homework. This will help improve our standards in Literacy and Numeracy and prepare us for our forthcoming assessments.
