P5 Killymoon Castle Visit: A Journey Back in Time

31st May 2024
Our Primary 5 year group had an incredible experience visiting Killymoon Castle today, where they stepped into the past and explored a fascinating World War Two exhibition commemorating D-Day.
Our students were taken on an engaging tour by experts who shared captivating stories about the castle’s history during World War Two. They explored the actual living quarters used by the American army during the war. Our students got an up-close look at the uniform worn by Tony Vickery, who was stationed at Killymoon Castle for training. The medics’ uniforms from World War Two were on display. The children learned about their crucial role in providing medical care during the conflict. From both sides of the war, our students observed the diverse uniforms worn by soldiers. Rank, job, and country all played a role in shaping these distinct outfits. The excitement continued as they explored authentic World War Two vehicles. Tanks, jeeps, and more were on show. Finally, they were able to sit on an authentic artillery piece, a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during this pivotal period in history.
The children truly enjoyed the experience and for anyone interested the exhibition is continuing over the weekend. Tomorrow there is even a re-enactment planned! 🏰
