November in P5
In Primary 5 this week, the focus in Numeracy centered on the concept of area and money. Students engaged in various practical activities to measure the area of shapes and took on an area investigation challenge, exploring all possible rectangles with an area of 24 cm. Extending their learning beyond the classroom, they applied these skills to measure areas in the playgrounds, canteen, and PE Hall. The students participated in shopping activities to consolidate their understanding of money to £20.
In Literacy, the students are currently immersed in the study of recounts, with a specific focus on the features found in newspaper recounts. Their understanding deepened as they read different examples and identified corresponding features within the text. Additionally, students delved further into the pages of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," their class novel. Exploring the creative realm of drama, they crafted a play script scene, embodying various characters. Infusing a technological touch, they brought their scenes to life using a Green screen, injecting excitement and imagination into their performances. The students showcased remarkable acting skills, breathing life into the narrative.
Recently, Primary 5 students explored the world of animation using the Stop Motion App, drawing inspiration from "The Worst Witch." Their creativity soared as they undertook the delightful task of crafting a broomstick flying formation. The animated creations brought the magical essence of the story to life, enhancing the learning experience with an extra layer of fun.
Within the framework of our World Around Us topic, Roots, students embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of plants and trees. To solidify their understanding of plant structures and apply STEM knowledge, students engaged in a creative endeavour—crafting their own flowers using readily available materials like straws and paper. This hands-on activity provided an engaging platform for them to demonstrate their comprehension of flower anatomy while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
Our P5 students have been working hard to prepare for Christmas and the upcoming Carol Service, taking place on Thursday 14th December. With the first Sunday of Advent this week, students explored the significance of the Advent Wreath as a symbol of hope, faith, and the imminent arrival of Jesus Christ into the world. Through lessons, discussions, and creative activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and the true meaning of Christmas.Holy Trinity Primary School, 44 Fairhill Road, Cookstown, County Tyrone BT80 8AG | Phone: 028 8676 3151
