Happy Learners in ASC and LSC ⭐️

1st Mar 2024
This week in the Learning Support and Autism Specific Centres, the boys and girls have been very busy.
In Literacy and Numeracy, we have individualised programmes. This ensures that learning experiences are tailored to suit the needs of every learner.

In Literacy, LSC 1, have been developing their fine motor skills, working on letter and word recognition, and learning to appreciate books.

In LSC 2, we have been recognising and spelling our tricky words.

In LSC 3, we have been following instructions and using the key features to write our own instructions. We have been exploring verbs and the past tense.

In the ASC 1, we have been following instructions, working on recognising words and building sentences.

In the ASC 2, we have been completing grammar and comprehension work based on our class novel Bad Dad.

We use a multi-sensory approach when learning Numeracy concepts. Each class incorporates practical as well as written methods of learning. We have individualised number programmes in each class and work at the level of each child.

In our topic based work we have been becoming familiar with money and time.

We have all been focusing on coin recognition, problem solving during shopping activities and working out change. We have also been learning to recognise and tell the time on analogue and digital clocks.

Our World Around Us Topic has been exploring Winter and Materials. This has provided us with the opportunity to take our learning outside and explore materials in our environment. We have investigated and problem solved during STEM experiments.

In the afternoons, each child gets to participate in The Arts, ICT, RE and PE carousel activities.

We have participated in a sensory art project with Big White Coach Events Company, funded by Mid Ulster Council. We explored different sensory materials and worked collaboratively together to create a project which will be showcased in the Burnavon in the next few weeks.

Integration is paramount in our Centres. We want every child to feel included and valued. Each child is assigned to a mainstream homeclass. Everyone has the opportunity to participate in lessons throughout the week and socialise with their peers.

Have a little look at some of our learning experiences this week. 😊⭐️
